Although South Haven Farm turned over their first field in March 2020, It’s conception starts decades prior…
Farm owner Stephanie Berluti grew up next-door to the 8 acre oasis tucked behind the suburbs of Orange, Connecticut; her whole life playing in the back fields and dreaming of the potential the land held. She grew up helping veterinarian and town legend, George Whitney, tended to his racing pigeons, flock of sheep and his potbelly pig Rooter. The Berluti family officially purchased the land in 2015, the starting Stephanie’s agricultural training journey around the country learning how to grow organically in various climates.
After working years as a non profit service provider for farmers in CT, Stephanie spent a season outside Atlanta as an apprentice at Serenbe Farms, an intentional agricultural community. During her time down south farming, Stephanie continued her agricultural educational mission by leading school field trips, farm tours for visitors and corporate groups from ATL and weekly volunteer groups. In 2016, Stephanie moved to Martha’s Vineyard and spent a season living in a tiny house and farming by the beach at North Tabor Farm. The following two years Stephanie lived out in the southwest in the Phoenix Valley of Arizona working on Steadfast Farm, a small scale specialized focusing on market garden style growing. If she can grow food in the desert, she can grow food anywhere. Finally, with enough training under her belt, Stephanie moved back home to begin growing. South Haven Farm first broke ground at the start of the pandemic in March 2020.
South Haven Farm grows their produce on just over 2 acres following sustainable practices to lessen our impacts on the climate and our environment as a whole.* The farm follows the organic standards of growing, but it is not yet certified.
